PERMIT BASICS

Access Vilas County parks and landings through a variety of permits and memberships to best suit your needs.

Vilas County has implemented annual membership and daily permit fees for all vehicle access to county parks, boat landings and river access landings.  A variety of flexible permit and membership options are available including daily permits and annual memberships for county residents, non-residents, Veterans/Disabled Veterans, and commercial operators.  Availability at each park and landing site is based on a space availability basis and may not be reserved in advance.

All Daily Permits and Annual Memberships are completely license plate based so you will not receive a physical permit/sticker and you are not required to display anything on your vehicle.  For Non-resident Annual Memberships, you must purchase a membership for each vehicle you desire to utilize the parks and landings under your membership.  For infrequent use of an alternate vehicle you may also purchase a daily permit as needed.

Please be sure to accurately enter your license plate number when purchasing a daily permit or annual membership to ensure your license plate number is valid when using a park or landing.

Daily Permits

Daily Permits: $5.00

Convenience Fee: $1.00 (per transaction)

For daily users, a daily permit may be purchased using the TAP 'N EXPLORE permit system located on the signage at each park and landing. Simply scan the QR code with your mobile device camera, enter your vehicle’s license plate number, select a payment method and you are on your way to adventure!

NOTE:

* Vehicle User Access Fee apply to use of boat launch, even if you don't park your vehicle on-site.

* There is a $1.00 convenience fee added to each payment transaction.

Annual Memberships

For frequent adventurers, select an annual annual memberships for county residents, non-residents, Veterans/Disabled Veterans, and commercial operator membership for easy access to all your favorite Vilas County parks and landings for the entire season!

  • I don’t want to pay online or provide my credit card information, is there a way to pay with cash?
    Yes. The Vilas County Forestry, Land, and Park’s office can help with cash transactions but is strongly encouraged to utilize the online Permitting System. Address: Vilas County Forest Recreation Land (Dept/Building) 2112 North Railroad Street Eagle River WI 54521 Hours of Operation: 8-4 Monday- Friday Points of Reference: Between the V.C. Highway Department and DNR Ranger Station Buildings off US-45. The building resembles a Log Cabin. There is a sign outside.
  • Do I need to pay to use a boat landing, if I am not parking at a landing?
    Yes. Permits are required to use Vilas County facilities. See locations here.
  • If I plan on using my ATV/UTV in the Vilas County Parks, do I need a permit?
    Yes. Permits are required to use Vilas County facilities. See locations here.
  • Does Vilas County Permits have a local office?

  • Is there a sticker or hanging tag associated with a permit?
    No. All Daily Permits and Annual Memberships are completely license plate based so you will not receive a physical permit/sticker and you are not required to display anything on your vehicle.
  • If I visit the Shooting Range, is the user access fee for only parking or to use the range?
    Permits are required to use Vilas County facilities. See locations here. Use of the range and parking at the Shooting Range are included in the permit.
  • How do I buy an Annual Veteran Membership? I can't find a link!
    You must submit a Veteran Permit Application to provide proof of VA status. Once your form is submitted and approved, a promo code will be provided to you by our Vilas County Customer Support. The same applies to the Disabled Veteran discount. On the Permit Payment Portal, apply a promo code to receive a discounted rate to apply to the “Annual Membership Permit”. Don't forget to click apply to apply the discount. Submit payment and your permit will be activated.
  • How do I buy a Annual Resident Membership? I can't find a link!
    You must submit a Resident Permit Application to provide proof of residency. Once your form is submitted and approved, a promo code will be provided to you by our Vilas County Customer Support. The same applies to the Senior Resident discount. On the Permit Payment Portal, apply a promo code to receive a discounted rate to apply to the “Annual Membership Permit”. Don't forget to click apply to apply the discount. Submit payment and your permit will be activated.
  • What age qualifies for a Senior Residential Membership?
    Ages 65+ qualify for the Senior Resident membership.
  • Can I register a second vehicle for free?
    The Resident and Senior Resident memberships allow for two license plates/vehicles per permit.

Rules & Regulations

  • A valid daily permit or annual membership is required for access to parks and landings at all times, 24 hours each day between May 1st and October 31st each year.
  • Parking spaces are based on space availability on a first-come first served basis.
  • Overnight parking and camping are not allowed.  
  • Please help us keep our parks clean by disposing of any trash in the provided receptacles and taking everything with you that you brought in.
  • All users are required to adhere to any posted rules and regulations at each park and landing.
